Review the audience for each kind of information
The privacy guide separates real-name visibility, friends, activity history and communication. Choose the audience for the feature that matters. Account privacy changes apply across devices. For child accounts, a family manager, parent or guardian may control which choices can be changed and can have additional activity visibility. PlayStation: profile and activity audience settings
- On PS5, use Settings > Users and Accounts > Privacy > View and Customize Your Privacy Settings. The guide lists current-activity, gaming-history and communication controls there. On PS4, use Settings > Account Management > Privacy Settings. Online Account Management also has Privacy settings with an Edit option for each feature. Use game-activity hiding rather than library organization
On PS5, the hiding guide points to Settings > Users and Accounts > Privacy > View and Customize Your Privacy Settings > Hide your games from other players. On PS4, it points to Privacy Settings > Hidden games. Its PS4 warning matters: the title can still appear in Now Playing. PlayStation: library hiding versus other-player visibility
Review status and in-game visibility together
On PS5, select the profile and Online Status. On PS4, use Profile > Set Online Status. In PlayStation App, select Profile > Online Status. The status guide says in-game players may still see a person online, and invitations can still arrive while Appear Offline is set. Review the game's own social settings where needed. PlayStation: online status and in-game exceptions
Review collection preferences separately from player audiences
The privacy overview describes Limited Data and Full Data choices on PS5. Read the explanation shown for the current system before deciding whether extra collection is useful. The limited choice still covers information necessary to provide services. PlayStation: linked activity and collection choices
Request and save a personal-data copy if needed
The U.S. help route is Account Management > Privacy Settings > Data Access Requests > Request Data. It describes a confirmation email followed by an email when the information is ready. Allow up to seven days for the second email; the download remains available for seven days after it arrives. PlayStation: requesting a personal-data copy
- The help says the second email leads to an Excel file after account verification if prompted. Keep the file private and review what it actually includes. A copy request is separate from changing a profile audience or asking about retention. PlayStation: requesting a personal-data copy
Consider the game or linked service as well
The privacy policy says first- and third-party studios may control information depending on the service. Review the relevant game or linked service's notice when its records are the concern. The policy's retention exceptions mean a visibility change does not establish immediate deletion of underlying records. PlayStation: activity records, other services and retention
Questions and answers
Can every child account change every privacy option?
The privacy guide says family managers and parents or guardians may control which options the child can change. PlayStation: profile and activity audience settings
Is the seven-day download window a retention promise?
The data-request help describes availability of the requested download. It does not establish a deletion date for all service records. PlayStation: requesting a personal-data copy
Does the library Hide command change the profile?
The hiding guide says it does not. Use the separate privacy feature for other-player visibility. PlayStation: library hiding versus other-player visibility
