Conceptual illustration

iPhone: App Privacy Report

  1. Open Settings, Privacy & Security, then App Privacy Report. Turn the report on if it is off. Apple: App Privacy Report
  2. After using apps, review sensor access and network activity. Collection starts when the report is enabled; it is not a reconstruction of earlier activity. Apple: App Privacy Report

Android: privacy dashboard

  1. Open Settings, then Security and Privacy or Privacy. Open Privacy dashboard; on some devices another Privacy menu appears first. Google: privacy dashboard
  2. Select a permission to review the listed apps and access times. Tap an app to review or change permission. The displayed history window depends on Android version. Google: privacy dashboard

Use the result to ask a precise question

A report shows activity, rather than deciding whether a permission is appropriate. Compare the app's function with the access you see. Review a specific permission before changing several unrelated controls. Google: privacy dashboard

Apple says gathering begins after the report is turned on. Apple: App Privacy Report
