iPhone: inspect location permissions
- Open Settings, Privacy & Security, then Location Services. Tap each app to review why it requests location and change its access. Apple: location controls
- Where approximate location is enough, turn Precise Location off for that app. Test whether the feature you need still works. Apple: location controls
Pixel and supported Android versions
- Open Settings, Location, then App location permissions. Inspect the groups for apps allowed in the background or only during use. Google: Pixel location permissions
- Select an app and choose the level it needs, such as only while using it or no access. Review precise-location permission where available. Google: Pixel location permissions
Google saved history
- Open the Timeline section of your Google Account using the official help link. Turn Timeline off if you do not want it to save future visits and routes. Google: Timeline controls
- Review existing Timeline data and the separate account activity settings. Turning off future saving and deleting past records are different choices. Google: Timeline controls
Keep the limits visible
Google's current help notes that Search history settings are changing and may differ by account. Follow the help shown for the account rather than assuming one screenshot applies to everyone. Google: Timeline controls
Questions and answers
Does approximate location hide which city I am in?
It reduces precision for that app, rather than promising to hide a city or region. Apple: location controls · Google: Pixel location permissions
Can changing permissions affect useful features?
Yes. Apple notes that switching off Location Services affects important features. Reviewing apps individually gives a more specific choice. Apple: location controls
Do app permissions control all carrier location uses?
Verizon distinguishes network location from app-based location. Review the carrier's own disclosures and controls separately. Verizon: network and app location
