Electric vehicles and charging records

How EV charging creates a location and account record

The station is part of the session record

ChargePoint's June 2026 policy lists charging-station location and name, session date, start and end times, duration, energy, fees, payment method and identifiers among network data. It separately describes phone geolocation. A station record can show where charging occurred without being the same record as phone GPS. ChargePoint: charging records, provider access and retention

Electrify America's published notice lists station and session identifiers, vehicle information including VIN, payment-related information and the addresses of stations used. It also lists possible station recordings among data categories. That policy description does not establish that a camera exists at any particular charger. An organization can be part of the data relationship

ChargePoint says an employer or leasing provider paying for charging can access session information and sometimes account data. The provider's own privacy policy matters as well. ChargePoint: charging records, provider access and retention

The Connections help explains that some workplaces, apartments or other restricted stations require an organization connection or use it for special pricing. An organization can request additional details, such as a license plate. A driver account and an approved organization connection are related but distinct. Plug&Charge identifies an enrolled account

Electrify America describes Plug&Charge as automatically identifying account information and initiating a session after enrollment for an eligible vehicle. Its page says not every vehicle is eligible and directs users to manufacturer-specific activation instructions. A session without a phone-app tap should not be described as having no account association. Electrify America: enrolled Plug&Charge account recognition

Guest charging is a payment route, not an anonymity guarantee

Electrify America's FAQ documents guest credit-card payment without an account. It separately describes text receipts when a phone number is supplied, with the total also displayed at the charger. The lack of an app account does not itself establish that no transaction or station record exists. Electrify America: guest payment, receipts and session options

Account closure and retained records need separate review

ChargePoint's policy uses purpose and legal requirements to determine retention and says backup or business-continuity copies can remain longer. It does not give one deletion clock for all charging records. ChargePoint: charging records, provider access and retention

Its cancellation help documents account deletion through the app or driver portal and describes refunding a remaining account balance to the associated credit card. That account action should be read alongside the policy's retention description and any separate provider arrangement. ChargePoint: account cancellation and balance handling
