Open the settings for the intended glasses
Meta documents this route in its mobile app: Glasses > Device settings > your glasses under Glasses > Glasses privacy. If several devices are paired, select the intended one before opening Device settings. Meta: essential and additional device data, privacy controls
Read the additional-data choice in its proper scope
The additional-data choice covers all paired devices; essential device data is used automatically. It does not control captured photos and videos. Review those media and permissions separately. Meta: essential and additional device data, privacy controls
Review the companion app location permission
Review location access in the phone's settings. Meta says always-allowed access can use phone location during glasses use even while the app and phone screen are not open. Feature requirements differ by phone version. Meta: phone location access for AI glasses and app features
Check imported photos and the temporary app cache
Meta's import help distinguishes the temporary app cache from photos saved on the phone. Its cache-clearing route is Glasses > Device settings > your glasses > Media > Clear cache, then confirmation. Review imported images in the phone photo library too. Meta: import cache, phone photo storage and gallery permissions
Review the media and destination before sharing
Meta documents Menu > Media, choose the capture, then Share and select a destination. Several captures can be selected through See all > Select. Imported media is required for this route. Meta: choose media and destination when sharing from the app
Treat voice deletion as a separate review
Meta's FAQ describes deletion of voice recordings and exclusion from future training, without immediate reversal of learned model patterns. Read the current in-app controls and the linked provider help before choosing what to remove. Meta: AI glasses sharing and voice-recording deletion FAQ
Respect the people around the camera
Meta advises stopping recording when someone objects and powering glasses off in sensitive spaces. Its privacy page describes a physical power switch. Explain the gallery capture light rather than hiding it, and review whether recording is appropriate before starting. Meta: gallery capture signals, AI camera use and responsible wearing

Sources and scope
Official Meta pages checked 10-24-2026, including English regional help views reached through provider links. App menus, devices, releases and regional availability can differ. Data-sharing scope comes from the specific additional-device-data article; it is not a universal opt-out. This is a documentation review, without a physical glasses test or changes to any account, permissions, recording, gallery, cache or device.
