Review dating-app location and profile privacy
Check Tinder Discovery and Grindr visibility controls, distinguish display from phone permissions, and review data access and deletion consequences.

Review Tinder Discovery and earlier interactions
In Tinder, open profile icon > Settings > Discovery > Enable Discovery. Review the toggle before deciding whether to switch it off. Existing matches remain available, and people liked earlier can still see and match with the profile. Search-distance preferences describe who appears in Discovery; they should not be mistaken for a complete rule about who can see the account. Tinder: Discovery visibility and prior likes
Review each Grindr visibility switch
Open the profile avatar to reach settings, then inspect the Show Me controls. Review Show My Distance and Show Me in Explore Searches separately. Hiding Explore search appearances does not obscure location from nearby Grid users. Viewed Me and For You have their own controls and consequences. Read each displayed description before changing it. Grindr: distance and visibility choices
For location collection itself, Grindr's policy directs users to device settings or browser settings. That is different from hiding a distance label inside the app. Check the actual permission and the effect on the service rather than assuming an audience switch also disables device collection. Check Map view only where it is available
If the limited Map view test is present, review Map Settings for visibility and location randomization. For Free and Xtra users, turning Show Me on Map off also blurs other profiles; the resulting prompt can turn visibility back on. Do not turn off an existing Incognito choice just to make another control editable. Check its current effect first. Grindr: limited Map view test and privacy controls
Review a data copy before closing an account
If a Tinder data copy is needed, its help links to Manage My Account > Download My Information. Read the export scope and use an email account legitimately controlled. Deleted-account users lose the self-service download route, but the export help describes contacting Tinder for available data. This is different from a promise that every past record can be retrieved. Tinder: account data access and export scope
Keep any downloaded archive private and read the relevant retention section before requesting deletion. Tinder's policy distinguishes safety, legal and dispute retention rather than supplying one date for all information. A copy request and an account-visibility change are separate actions. Tinder: retention after closure
Use the correct deletion route only if closure is intended
Tinder documents profile icon > Settings > Delete Account, or its official Manage My Account tool. Read the confirmation and the separate subscription-cancellation requirement. The restoration feature is being tested in selected markets; do not rely on it as a guaranteed undo option. Account deletion is not required to review Discovery. Tinder: deletion, restoration and subscriptions
Grindr's Android help uses profile > Settings > Deactivate > Delete Account. Its iOS help uses profile > Settings > Delete Profile. Read the confirmation and subscription consequences. The documented profile deletion is permanent, while uninstalling alone leaves the profile. These are public help paths; the installed apps were not tested. Grindr: account deletion and subscription consequences
Grindr's policy generally describes deletion within 28 days after profile deletion, with limited exceptions. It separately retains a device identifier and limited logs for up to two years for internal reporting, metrics and statistics, and lists safety, security and legal qualifications. This differs from immediate erasure of every record. Grindr: location and retention disclosures
