Phone carriers and network location records
App permissions and a carrier's network records are different. Read the distinction in Verizon and T-Mobile disclosures before choosing a control.

Network location and app location are separate
Verizon says it collects cell-tower location information. Depending on permission, it may also collect GPS, Wi-Fi and other location information through its apps. Its policy distinguishes network operation from the location access granted to an app. Verizon: network and app location
T-Mobile also describes routine network collection
T-Mobile says it collects location when a device uses its network as part of cellular operation. It separately describes permission-based uses of more precise location for offers, advertising and optional services. Those are the provider's disclosures, rather than a measurement of a particular customer's records. T-Mobile: network location and choices
A phone setting may not change a carrier program
Verizon's Custom Experience FAQ says the Plus program can use network location regardless of the device's location-services setting, while permission controls location received from its apps. Review program participation as a separate choice. Verizon: program controls and limits
Keep retention tied to the named dataset
For Custom Experience programs, Verizon describes website information retained no more than 6 months and location/CPNI information approximately one year. These are program-specific disclosures, not a universal lifetime for all carrier records. Verizon: program controls and limits
Access reports also have a scope
T-Mobile's request guide distinguishes reports by account relationship. A current primary account holder and a former customer may receive different account coverage. Read the report description before assuming a request returns every record related to every line. T-Mobile: access and deletion requests
Questions and answers
Does changing an app permission change every carrier record?
Do not assume that. Verizon separately describes cell-tower information and permission-based location obtained through apps. Verizon: network and app location
Does the camera map show a person's cellular history?
The site's camera points do not establish a person's carrier location history. Use the provider-specific sources for those practices.
Is the stated retention period for every carrier?
No. The figures above concern Verizon's named Custom Experience programs. Verizon: program controls and limits
