Practical website notification privacy
Review website notification permissions
Inspect Chrome, Firefox and Safari notification choices, distinguish quieter prompts from blocking, and keep website permission separate from operating-system alert appearance.

Review Chrome desktop site permissions
Google documents More > Settings > Privacy and security > Site Settings > Notifications. Review allowed and blocked sites and the default choice. Quieter messaging changes the prompt style; it does not itself block a site's request. Google: desktop notification permissions and quieter prompts
Check removed permissions rather than assuming a broken website
Google says Chrome can remove permissions from inactive or disruptive sites. Its desktop help documents removed permissions under Safety Check. Review the explanation before deciding whether to grant access again. Google: desktop notification permissions and quieter prompts
Distinguish Firefox blocking from removing a grant
Mozilla documents a Notifications settings list under the browser's Permissions section. Block stops a site requesting permission again. Remove Website revokes permission while allowing a later request. Save Changes commits the selected choices. Mozilla: desktop push routing and notification permissions
Review new Firefox notification requests separately
Mozilla documents a checkbox to block new notification permission requests. Review existing site choices separately; the browser also allows individual exceptions. Navigation labels vary in the public help, so locate its Notifications permission section. Mozilla: desktop push routing and notification permissions
Separate Safari Mac alert appearance from website permission
Apple documents System Settings > Notifications > Application Notifications, then the website, to turn off Allow Notifications or change alert style. The website can remain listed. Removing it from that list requires denying notification permission in Safari settings. Apple: Safari Mac notification delivery and separate controls
Review whether Safari websites can ask again
Apple documents Safari > Settings > Websites > Notifications and the choice controlling whether websites may ask for notification permission. This request choice is separate from changing the appearance of an already permitted alert. Apple: Safari Mac notification delivery and separate controls
Keep subscription revocation distinct from an account-data request
The W3C working draft describes permission revocation deactivating affected subscriptions and preventing subsequent delivery through them. That mechanism concerns delivery subscriptions. For a separate goal such as reviewing old account records, use the website's documented privacy-request route. W3C: working-draft subscription and metadata model
