Compare OMNY card and account benefits before linking
The OMNY Card page describes account features separately from card purchase and reload. OMNY: card purchase/reload and registration tradeoffs
- If using OMNY, compare a cash-loaded OMNY Card with a bank card or linked account. Machines and participating stores support card purchase/reload. Linking provides online reload, automatic reload and balance-protection features; decide which features are needed. OMNY: card purchase/reload and registration tradeoffs
Keep fare benefits in mind when changing payment methods
OMNY documents a same-payment-method rule for transfers and fare caps. OMNY: cash cards, history windows and same-method benefits
- Use the exact same payment method when relying on those benefits. Switching between a physical bank card and a smart-device payment can affect transfer/capping treatment. A privacy choice should account for those fare consequences; pay the applicable fare. OMNY: cash cards, history windows and same-method benefits
Review account access without publishing trip details
OMNY's account guide has separate Wallet and Account Settings functions. OMNY: account, card and history controls
- For an existing account, inspect linked cards under Wallet and Manage Payment Methods. Use a distinct password and PIN and avoid saving credentials on public computers. Keep card numbers, security codes and private histories out of public feedback or screenshots. OMNY: account, card and history controls
Limit an optional location permission within its actual scope
OMNY says website/app current-location permission can be withdrawn. OMNY: collection, permission, disclosure and retention
- Review the browser or app permission if that optional feature is unnecessary. This does not erase earlier fare transactions. For account closure, the policy directs customers to OMNY Customer Service; ask about balances, benefits and retained data before proceeding. OMNY: collection, permission, disclosure and retention
Check what TAP guest mode and cash loading actually do
TAP distinguishes some guest functions from account-based services. Los Angeles TAP: app, guest mode and Help Request
- Read the feature needed before registering. Guest mode allows some app use without sign-in. The app's More, Payment Options, Account Cash, Add Cash route credits cash to a TAP account through PayNearMe; it is not an account-free route merely because cash funds it. Los Angeles TAP: app, guest mode and Help Request
Read TAP deletion consequences before requesting it
The current displayed notice makes account closure part of personal-data deletion, with legal-retention qualifications. Los Angeles TAP: personal data, sharing and qualified deletion
- Before any request, review the card type, stored balance and program eligibility. The notice distinguishes ordinary plastic cards, Reduced Fare cards and virtual cards, with different continuation, cancellation or transfer rules. Account closure cannot be reinstated and can end account-required benefits. Ask customer service about the applicable balance treatment before proceeding. Los Angeles TAP: personal data, sharing and qualified deletion
Use the documented TAP deletion route only after that review
TAP's FAQ provides a Help Request category and customer-service route. Los Angeles TAP: tokenization, registration and deletion consequences
- If deletion is still wanted after checking consequences, the documented route is Help Request, then Delete Personal Data, or the official customer-service email linked in the FAQ. This guide does not promise deletion of data that law requires the agency to retain. Los Angeles TAP: tokenization, registration and deletion consequences
Keep an unregistered card's limits in view
OMNY documents trip history even without an account. An unregistered or cash-loaded card does not therefore mean that no ride record exists. Neither account deletion nor a phone permission setting should be treated as a guarantee of anonymous travel. OMNY: cash cards, history windows and same-method benefits
