Identify the credential and its supported uses first

Apple's license guide limits availability to participating jurisdictions and says physical ID may still be needed. Confirm the issuer and intended recipient's current requirements before relying on a phone credential. Do not enroll a new credential simply to inspect the privacy instructions. Review Apple Digital ID defaults before approaching a reader

For an existing Digital ID, Apple documents selecting the ID and its Present menu. Choose With Review when the aim is to see all requested information before sharing. All ID Information has different behavior, and Age & ID Photo can request additional information. Read the current selection; do not assume every tap adds a fresh approval screen. Review the requester and optional Apple verification sharing

Apple's privacy overview says a presentation can show the requester, requested information and whether it is retained. Review those details where available. Its optional Improve ID Verification control is under Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements. That option concerns improving verification; it is not the same choice as presenting an ID to a recipient. Apple: ID enrollment, presentation and privacy choices

Review Google state-ID presentation and history separately

Google's state-ID instructions describe reviewing requested information, choosing Continue or Share, or Cancel, then authenticating. For an existing credential, More > View and manage activity controls local activity history. Google says turning history off after enabling it deletes that device activity. This does not establish deletion of the issuer's or recipient's own records. Google: state-issued mobile license and ID data

Use the ID pass instructions for a passport-based Google pass

Google documents requested-information review and cancellation for ID pass presentations. Its local activity-history control is under the pass's More menu > View and manage activity. Review it privately; turning history on creates a device record. The guide says the pass is not a replacement for physical documentation and may not be universally accepted. Google: passport-based ID pass, presentation and local activity

Avoid applying a generic pass switch to every digital ID

Google's private-pass help says digital IDs can lack the generic Use private pass across Google setting and are managed differently. Use the exact state-ID or ID-pass help for that credential. Do not infer that an absent switch means a setting is broken or that every wallet pass has identical data uses. Google: private passes and digital-ID exceptions

Remove the intended device credential only if that is the goal

Apple documents Wallet > the ID > Info > Remove Driver's License or Remove This ID. Its Watch instructions use the iPhone Watch app > My Watch > Wallet & Apple Pay > the ID. Review the device and confirmation carefully. A privacy review does not require erasing the whole phone. Apple: removing a device ID credential

Questions and answers

Does Apple's on-device history statement prove a recipient keeps no record?

Apple separately describes reviewing whether the requested data is retained. A local history statement does not establish every recipient's policy. Apple: ID enrollment, presentation and privacy choices

Must Google ID pass activity history be turned on to read this guide?

No. Google describes it as optional and off by default. Google: passport-based ID pass, presentation and local activity

Does removing a Wallet ID require erasing the phone?

Apple documents removing the selected ID directly in Wallet. Apple: removing a device ID credential
