Practical travel privacy
Review flight booking and travel-site privacy
Keep reservation codes private, review optional tracking and marketing separately, and ask the appropriate company about retained travel data.

Keep booking references and passes private
Delta's policy advises keeping the booking reference confidential and discusses separate bookings for travelers who do not want individual details shared with companions. Consider that before arranging a trip, rather than assuming one shared reservation provides separate private views. Delta: booking references and retention scope
Before posting a travel photo, check whether it includes a boarding pass, barcode or reservation confirmation. IATA describes the barcode as encoded data, so covering only the printed name does not establish that the remaining image reveals no information. Share booking material only with its intended recipients. IATA: boarding-pass barcode standards
Review required passenger data accurately
Use the airline's official reservation route to check required passenger details. American's guidance distinguishes a redress number, when applicable, from the required name, birth date and gender fields. Follow the provider's current timing requirements. Optional advertising settings are not a substitute for the information needed to arrange lawful travel. American Airlines: Secure Flight booking requirements
Separate communication preferences from trip records
In Expedia's account or official customer-service route, review communication preferences and privacy choices where available. Its statement says promotional-email unsubscribe does not stop important transactional or account messages. It also provides routes to inquire about access, correction and deletion. Check the actual account and jurisdiction before assuming every request has the same outcome. Expedia: suppliers, preferences and retained records
Review cookie choices in the actual browser
Use Expedia's Cookie Statement to reach its cookie-preferences control and review optional categories. It says some essential cookies cannot be disabled and blocking cookies may limit functions. Its response to browser opt-out signals depends on approval under applicable law. An advertising opt-out can still leave general ads visible. Expedia: optional cookies and advertising choices
Identify each company before asking about deletion
Identify the travel agency, operating airline, partner carrier and loyalty program involved. American describes booking-fulfillment sharing and certain employer-funded travel. Ask the relevant provider about each category and retention period; one company's marketing preference does not establish erasure by another. American Airlines: booking data, codes and retention
Expedia lists relationship duration, bookings, legal obligations and backups among its retention criteria, including possible residual backup copies. Check those qualifications before assuming an old trip disappearing from an account means its associated records are gone. Expedia: suppliers, preferences and retained records
Use the appropriate consumer-privacy route
DOT's Office of Aviation Consumer Protection provides an official privacy-complaint route for airlines and ticket agents. Its page separately directs airline-security issues to TSA and biometric-policy questions to CBP. Read the relevant route and keep any supporting records private before deciding whether to submit a complaint. No complaint or personal-data request is required to read these public notices.
