Practical delivery privacy
Protect delivery photos and tracking details
Keep package identifiers and photos private, verify messages through the actual order, review delivery notifications, and use carrier support for missing packages or record questions.

Open tracking from a known order route
The FTC recommends independently checking shipping information at the retailer or order account when a delivery text may be suspicious. Avoid entering personal or payment information through an unexpected link. Phone filters and junk-reporting features can help manage unwanted messages. FTC: independently verify delivery messages
Keep tracking identifiers and labels out of public posts
FedEx says its described residential photo feature can be viewed with a tracking number without a login. Treat that number and the resulting delivery picture as information to share only with the people who need it. Review a screenshot before posting it. FedEx: delivery and attempted-delivery photos
UPS documents shipping identifiers and warns that package-exterior information can be visible. Cover the full label, address, numbers and barcodes in a public package photo. Keep an unedited private copy if it is needed to explain a shipment problem. UPS: shipment information, privacy requests and retention
UPS's photo-support text also requires the delivery ZIP code. Avoid assuming that a ZIP code is a strong secret or that all photo tools require a signed-in account. Read the actual tool's verification requirements. UPS: delivery photo ZIP-code requirement
Review where delivery photos and history appear
UPS lists email, automatic notifications, tracking and My Choice as photo routes. Review which inboxes, devices and account addresses are involved before forwarding a confirmation. My Choice also combines deliveries for multiple associated addresses. An account's package view can therefore need review after a move or household change. UPS: photo notifications and package history
Read the meaning of a photo or map before raising a problem
FedEx describes a delivery GPS map as the scan location and qualifies its precision. Compare the shipment's status and photo with the intended delivery information. A map marker alone should not be used to accuse a person or identify a neighbor as responsible for a missing package. FedEx: U.S./Canada GPS scan location and access scope
Use carrier support for a missing package
FedEx's U.S. help directs recipients to review picture proof and provides a missing-package route. Start at the known carrier site using the actual shipment information. FedEx: missing-package support and verification
- The documented route is Manage Delivery > Report Missing Package. A person who is not signed in is asked for the original destination address. The process requests contact details and a contact preference, then provides a case number after submission. Keep any case number privately. A missing-package report and a claim are separate options on the help page. FedEx: missing-package support and verification
Ask about the specific record and retention purpose
UPS describes access, correction and deletion options subject to applicable law and identity verification. Its retention section refers to business purposes and legal requirements. Ask about the relevant shipment record through its privacy contact route; a dashboard history window does not promise that all photos, scans and exports disappear together. UPS: shipment information, privacy requests and retention
