A snapshot and an ongoing share are different
Apple distinguishes a one-time location pin from ongoing Live Location and trip-related sharing. A pin shows the location sent at that moment; an ongoing share can let the recipient follow movement. Check which kind of sharing is active. Apple: sharing types and app removal limits
Recipients can receive more than a point on a map
Google says Maps sharing can reveal the device's recent location even outside active Google-app use, the sharer's name and photo, battery information and arrival or departure information when notifications are added. Turning Timeline off does not turn Location Sharing off. Google: Maps sharing on Android · Google: Maps sharing on iPhone
A shareable link has a different audience
Google documents link-based real-time sharing for up to 24 hours with people who have the link. Review link shares as well as named recipients. Google: Maps sharing on Android · Google: Maps sharing on iPhone
Deleting Find My is not the same as stopping sharing
Apple says people can still see an existing location share after the Find My app is deleted. Its instructions say to reinstall Find My and use the sharing controls. App removal alone is not the documented stop procedure. Apple: sharing types and app removal limits
A temporary pause can resume
Apple's September 2026 safety guide says Hide Location resumes sharing the next day. It also says former recipients may notice a stopped share, and earlier operating systems may send a Messages notification. Do not assume a change will go unnoticed. Apple: sharing visibility and pause limits
