Check the exact image and its attribution

Use Google's attribution guidance to distinguish company-captured imagery from another contributor's photo. Keep the image link and the specific issue together when deciding which help route to use. This avoids treating every photo attached to a place as the same kind of Street View image. Google: imagery attribution and collection

On desktop, Google documents opening the Street View photo from a place or using Pegman. Where available, See more dates shows older panoramas. Review the relevant image and date instead of assuming the newest view is the only one that needs attention. Google: finding Street View and older imagery

Read the permanent-blur and verification rules first

Google's current house-blur route is the exact Street View image > Report a Problem > My home. Only an owner or tenant is eligible. Before certifying authority or uploading anything, read the document criteria: Google requires proof of address, asks for personal details other than address and document date to be redacted, and excludes government IDs and handwritten documents. Its page gives accepted document types, age exceptions and file limits. An applied blur is permanent. Google: residential blur eligibility and document rules

Use the contributor route for someone else's imagery

For Photo Spheres, Google directs photographers to blur identifying content before publication. For an image not owned by the requester, use the documented report route for a policy violation. Read the relevant policy and identify the actual image; do not assume the owner-delete control is available on someone else's contribution. Google: Photo Spheres and contributed 360 imagery

Google's user-content policy explains that reports and suspected violations are reviewed through automated tools or people. Use accurate details and the appropriate category. Review does not establish a guaranteed outcome or remove unrelated records held elsewhere. Google: user-contributed content review

Review media contributed from an owned account

Google's desktop photo help documents Menu > Your contributions > Photos, then the photo's More menu and Delete this photo. Only the account's own uploaded media can be deleted this way. Review copies in the phone gallery, Google Photos and other storage separately before assuming the Maps action has the intended effect everywhere. Google: Maps photo posts and ownership controls

Review profile visibility separately

For Android, Google's current help documents profile picture > Settings > Location & privacy and the restricted-profile switch. Read the displayed scope. Google still says reviews, photos and ratings are public; inspect individual contributions before relying on a profile setting as an image-removal action. Google: public contributions and restricted profiles

For Google imagery used in AI, the contributed-imagery policy defines the effect of an applied new blur on future prompting and distinguishes previously created third-party imagery. Check that scope before assuming the action recalls earlier generated content. Google: contributed imagery, timing and AI use
