A permission can cover one visit or future visits
Google distinguishes permission for the current Chrome visit from permission that also applies on future visits. Camera, microphone and location are examples. A site-specific choice can override the browser default. Google: desktop website permissions and visit duration
Camera permission has an access and feature scope
Google says an allowed desktop Chrome site can start recording while the person is on that site. Its statement about other tabs concerns starting a recording; it should not be read as a guarantee that switching tabs ends an existing recording. Google: camera, microphone and managed-browser limits
Phone browser controls also have site exceptions
Apple documents separate Safari choices for camera, microphone and location, with exceptions for individual websites. The selected iOS 27 guide distinguishes those controls from other Safari privacy settings. Apple: Safari privacy on iPhone
Clearing a saved decision can mean asking again
Mozilla says clearing a camera or microphone permission in Firefox's address-bar panel causes the site to ask again on the next visit. Clearing the decision is different from choosing a continuing block. Mozilla: site camera and microphone permissions
A managed browser may restrict the available choice
Google says work or school administrators can set camera and microphone permissions, so the person using a managed browser may not be able to change them. Google: camera, microphone and managed-browser limits

Sources and scope
Public Google, Mozilla and Apple documentation checked 10-24-2026. Google routes distinguish desktop Chrome from Android. Apple's opened iPhone guide selected iOS 27. Mozilla's page contains multiple interface variants, so the address-bar route is used here. The recording-start statement is kept within its published scope; ongoing capture behavior was not independently measured.
