Phone permissions control access
Apple lets an iPhone user choose how much contact access an app receives, including a selected set of contacts. Google describes Android's Contacts permission as access to the device's contacts. A service can use synced contacts for discovery
TikTok's Friends Tab help says account suggestions can include people from phone contacts or Facebook, depending on information shared with the service. Its contact-sync feature is controlled in app privacy settings. This is a specific company disclosure. TikTok: contact sync controls
The other person's address book can matter
TikTok describes a conditional contact suggestion: the account has a linked phone number or email, that identifier is in another person's contacts, that person syncs contacts, and the account's Contacts suggestion setting is on. Stopping sync and removing past uploads are different controls
TikTok says disabling device contact access or its sync switch stops future syncing, while earlier synced contacts can still support suggestions. Its help describes a separate removal control. TikTok: account-suggestion conditions
