Conceptual illustration

An export can reveal more than visible posts

Google lists email, documents, photos and account activity among exportable data. Downloading a copy does not delete the originals from Google. Google: Takeout selection, delivery and archive limits

Gmail exports can include message bodies, headers, attachments, labels, forwarding addresses and filters. Previously encrypted messages remain encrypted in the download. Google: Gmail export contents and managed accounts

Apple copies include records as well as content

Apple lists account and sign-in details, iCloud content, service usage, store purchase and browsing records, and support transactions among requestable categories. Apple: account data copies and exclusions

A missing item does not prove it was never collected

Google says an archive can omit recent changes and items undergoing deletion. Google: Takeout selection, delivery and archive limits

Apple describes omissions for unlinked data, inaccessible end-to-end encrypted information, data it does not store and records no longer retained. Some support records require separate requests. Apple: account data copies and exclusions

A copy and an account change are separate tools

Apple lists copying, correction, transfer, temporary deactivation and permanent account deletion as separate options. Choose the tool that matches the intended task. Apple: separate copy, correction, transfer and account tools

Sending a copy to another service adds another holder

Google describes a separate portability feature in supported regions: one static copy, or repeated access for 30 or 180 days. The receiving service is responsible for its copy. This process does not synchronize the two accounts. Google: third-party copies and continuing access

Managed accounts can have different availability

Google says some work or school Gmail data may be unavailable to download. Google: Gmail export contents and managed accounts

Apple says a school administrator must permit access to the privacy portal for a Managed Apple Account. Available features remain limited to that account type. Apple: account data copies and exclusions
