Google Locked Folder uses existing device access
Google says Android Locked Folder uses the device screen lock, without a separate folder password. Its items are excluded from the ordinary grid, search, memories and albums. Someone with screen-lock access can unlock it. Google: Locked Folder authentication, backup and copy limits
Locked Folder backup changes availability and loss risk
Google allows automatic or individual backup. Unbacked items stay on the device and can be lost through app removal, cleared app data, device loss or reset. They are excluded from ordinary device transfers when backup is off. Google: Locked Folder authentication, backup and copy limits
Moving the original does not move every copy
Google says edited versions and existing copies remain where stored when the original enters Locked Folder. Copies saved by recipients are also unaffected. Google: Locked Folder authentication, backup and copy limits
Google Archive mainly changes the Photos view
Google says archived photos remain in albums, search results and device folders and still count toward storage. Archive should not be treated as a locked store or a deletion request. Google: archive display and search visibility
Apple Hidden is a library view with authentication
Apple's selected iOS 26 guide says Hidden and Recently Deleted are locked by default, using Face ID, Touch ID or a passcode. With iCloud Photos, hiding or deleting also applies to devices using the same Apple Account. Apple: selected iOS 26 Hidden and Recently Deleted controls
Hiding and deleting have different consequences
Apple's safety guide says hidden photos remain in the library and can be revealed later. On Mac, the Hidden album can be omitted from the sidebar; viewing it uses Touch ID or the login password when locked. Apple: hidden photos remain in the library and Mac visibility controls
The iOS 26 guide describes a separate Recently Deleted collection with a 30-day recovery period before permanent removal. Deletion with iCloud Photos also affects the associated synced devices. Apple: selected iOS 26 Hidden and Recently Deleted controls
