Lexington Police Department
License plate reader records for Lexington. Each fact keeps its source and checked date.
Written rules describe policy, not proof that every search follows it. Agency-reported camera totals have a different scope from community-mapped county points.
What the public record establishes
The city locations page also totals 125 readers by council district and dates those table numbers to September 25, 2024. That table date is separate from the undated inventory statement on the main program page. Neither establishes a field-verified current count.

Data retention
Published order sets a 30-day maximum, subject to longer periods required by Kentucky law or records schedules. Evidentiary data is preserved separately.
This is the published order's rule, not an independently verified current retention setting. Applicable records schedules may require a longer period.

Access and oversight
Trained employees use individual credentials; searches require a reason and are audited at least quarterly.

Separate technology program records
The city separately describes a Video Management System and Fusus camera participation. Level 1 registration identifies possible footage without direct police access. Level 2 offers direct feeds during nearby emergencies and has an owner cost. These program descriptions do not establish current device totals, individual permissions or VMS retention. The plate-reader count and retention rule in this profile do not describe all video cameras.

Separate drone program records
Lexington's 2026 department goals call for more licensed drone pilots in the Forensic Services Unit and establishment of a drone as first responder (DFR) program by the Bureau of Investigation Intelligence Unit. These are objectives, not verification of completed staffing, program launch, fleet quantity or launch locations. The separate goal to explore long-term digital-evidence storage does not establish drone retention rules.
